Research has shown that parental involvement in a child’s school life makes a significant difference to a pupil’s engagement and achievement in school.

Soon we will be offering the Life Education ‘Assembly Programme’ which has been endorsed by leading figures from the parenting field. This programme brings parents/carers and children together in the school setting and provides useful information for them about promoting health choices, positive behaviour and supporting learning.

Children from Year One are invited to showcase their work on health and well-being a few weeks after their Life Education visit. (Resources and support are provided to the school and teachers for this.) Following the children’s presentation there is a workshop for parents which addresses family issues particularly those around sleep, diet and behaviour.

The ‘Assembly programme’ has been piloted in other parts of the country and has been highly welcomed and praised by parents and schools.

What some parents said about the Life Education Assembly Programme Workshop they attended:

‘I wish I’d had this information years ago, when the children were younger’

‘It’s so good to know that I’m not the only one who finds things difficult at times’

‘I’ve learnt that I need to reward my children for being good, which we often forget to do’

We will be running a pilot scheme with selected schools during the spring term 2008. If you would like your school to be a part of that please contact us and your educator will call you back to discuss.
